This is the my newest design and it is also a little special to me as it's the first time that my design is used in public (and the first time that I design something by someone's request). I was asked to redesign the menu of the restaurant where I’m working. It is only a small Vietnamese restaurant located on one of the crowed avenues in Calgary. Some requirements are: the menu must list 63 items in total, each with a Vietnamese name and an English descriptio, in only 6 pages (include the cover page - so only 5 pages left for the content). There is no photos of food for decoration excepts the title image that I must include (by the owner's request).
The fact that there are so much text that have to be printed in just 5 pages is the most difficult obstacle. I have to satisfy the requirement and at the same time give a fresh look for the menu (not just text and text like the old menu). Besides, one of the limitations of the old menu that it looks like a ... fiction (which sometimes we, waiters and waitresses, joked that the customers read the menu so long that like they are reading a fiction) and the text & food numbers are very small caused confusion for customers. I have to fix that too.
I'm happy with myself that the design I came up satisfies all the requirements yet still look elegant as if it is of an expensive Western restaurant. Being a waiter, the feeling when directly hear praises from customers of the restaurant is really "special" :)
